The Hollywood actress tries something new for her latest role
If Julia Roberts is known for one thing, it's that smile. Broad and brilliant white, it's a giant grin that you'd recognise anywhere as belonging to her.
So Ms Roberts' most recent role – as the face of Givenchy's Spring 2015 campaign – is definitely something of a departure from her glittery Hollywood persona. And we love it.
Dressed in boyish top-to-toe black (well, this is Givenchy after all), Julia appears moodier than we've ever seen her, with those twinkling white teeth firmly locked behind a shut, pursed mouth. Gone are the girly frocks, and in their place a pair of slouchy trousers, shirt, sweater and oversized blazer. True, Julia would look good in a bin liner, but this more androgynous look is one we think she should wear more of.
Speaking about casting the 47-year-old star as the face of his upcoming campaign, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci told WWD: 'The mood of the show was about this very powerful woman, and Julia represents this very much.'
'I decided to make her more intellectual, more serious, more pure, he continued.
'It's a different, fresh, new way to see Julia - really cool and urban, I think.'
Having taken a step back from the limelight of late, Julia returned to the red carpet earlier this year to promote her last film, August: Osage County. But with two more films in production (one reportedly with Angelina Jolie's protegee, Jack O'Connell), and a fabulous new fashion campaign, we're predicting that 2015 is going to be Julia's year.
