Hot NYFW trend: Schoolgirl chic

DKNY, Marc Jacobs and new designer on the block Alexa Chung have sparked an A/W trend

The bag of choice right now is unquestionably the satchel, and perhaps our current love for the fold-over school bag was an early indicator of a hot new trend that's emerging from NYFW.

The trend forecast according to DKNY, Marc Jacobs and Alexa Chung looks like we'll be donning collegiate blazers and pleated school skirts even if we're heading to the office rather than the classroom for double maths.

DKNY's girls wore shades of grey on their gym-style pleated skirts teamed with matching tights and baker boy hats. Ponytails were swished over one shoulder schoolgirl style.

Alexa Chung's models at Madewell wore knee-length socks and college scarves draped carelessly round their necks. Their grey blazers topped off Batman T-shirts and the overall effect was very much 'meet you in the yard for a crafty fag at break'.

Finally Marc Jacobs' take on the trend came in yet more grey with ankle socks worn with round-toed Mary Janes and 70s collared peacoats and girly grey dresses.

And with temperatures being what they are right now, it's an A/W 2010-11 trend you can adopt straight away... Just don't get caught passing notes in class...
