French design house Carven has just arrived in the UK via online shopping Mecca net-a-porter. And with fans including Vanessa Paradis and Charlotte Gainsbourg, the label is set to wow British fashionistas with its understated Gaelic style.
Carven is a French couture house that was established in 1945 and has been attracting a high-end clientele that includes European royalty and film stars ever since. The label is now designed by Guillaume Henry, former designer at Givenchy who is breathing a new lease of fashion life into the brand.
Carven's most recent celebrity convert is Rihanna who was spotted snapping up the house's sleek pieces at LA boutique Curve.
As you'd expect from a quintessentially French brand, this is a cool, easy-to-wear collection that's demurely sexy and definitely not trying too hard. Think classic shapes given a contemporary twist such as shirt dresses in cool cottons, frocks in off-the-shoulder styles, one-shouldered cocktail dresses and soft jersey separates.
