Not only has Natalie Portman's new film Black Swan been nominated for four Golden Globes, but it's set to take to be 2011's most fashionable film too with costumes designed by Rodarte
It may not be set for release until January 21, but the buzz surrounding ballet thriller Black Swan is ever-growing, as it was announced yesterday that it was set to dominate the Golden Globes with four nominations, including Best Drama Actress for Natalie Portman's chilling performance. For us fashion fans though, it's the killer wardrobe that's set to really have our hearts racing.
Natalie is a huge fan of Rodarte design duo, the Mulleavy sisters, and it's her we have to thank for the stunning collection of tutus and ballgowns that ensure the film is as pretty as it is spooky. She introduced the design duo to director Darren Aronofsky, and the rest is history.
While Natalie is an experienced dancer, her costume-makers were less familiar with their task, having barely glimpsed a tutu up close before they started the design process. The end results speak for themselves though, with a breathtaking array of gravity-defying designs – 40 in total – including all of Natalie’s Swan Lake performance costumes in the film.
The pair are now pretty smitten with the art having mastered it too. ‘Building a tutu is one of the lost couture arts,’ Laura Mulleavy recently told NY magazine.
Now we can add Natalie's dressing-up box to our already extensive list of things that make us jealous about the stunning starlet!
