It's a well-known fact that just about every hot designer / high street collaboration ends up selling for three times as much on eBay. H&M's sell-out collections with Stella McCartney, Jimmy Choo and Matthew Williamson have all turned up on eBay at massively inflated prices, while Kate Moss for Topshop's first collection was arguably easier to get hold of on the auction site than it was at Topshop Oxford Street.
So perhaps it was only a matter of time before eBay themselves wanted a piece of the designer collaboration action. The US version of the website, eBay.com, has teamed up with red carpet favourite, Narciso Rodriguez, to launch the first ever eBay Capsule Collection, going live later today.
The limited edition range has all the hallmarks of Rodriguez's signature streamlined look and sophisticated colour blocking in a red, black and white palette. Rather than bidding, the collection will be sold at fixed price points ranging from £40 to £225 in sizes 4 to 18.
“For me it’s always been about dressing many women of all ages, all types, all sizes, and this special collection on eBay is a unique opportunity to reach a broad global audience," said Rodriguez.
