A model on the DKNY catwalk

DNKY cast real New Yorkers to model the clothes for its AW14 collection

DKNY is so far the show to make the biggest statement on the catwalk at NYFW this season, as Donna Karan eschewed Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora to cast real New Yorkers as models in her show.

While Rita Ora – who is the face of DKNY and starred in its last catwalk show – was in attendance, she was sat firmly on the side of the catwalk, rather than walking down it. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old singer was modelling a cool DKNY leather jacket and tartan dress, which got the flashbulbs popping.

Continuing its 25th anniversary celebrations, DKNY's AW14 show was even more of a love letter to the Big Apple than ever before. Opening with a video which showed New Yorkers talk about their home city, real life city dwellers then took to the catwalk (alongside the professionals, too), to model DKNY's AW14 collection and really push home the heritage of the brand.

This was as much a showcase of the diversity of NYC, and just how stylish its inhabitants are, as it was for the clothes. And we loved it.
