The fashion designer raised a glass to the one of the most enduring creations in fashion, alongside Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn
Diane von Furstenberg was in the party spirit this weekend, as she celebrated a whopping 40 years of her signature wrap dress at her Autumn Winter 2014 New York Fashion Show.
Karen Elson, a long time von Furstenberg model, opened the star-studded show, which also saw Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn take to the catwalk to showcase the fashion designer's Autumn Winter 2014 range.
Of course, there were plenty of wrap dresses on display, as there always is – but it wasn't until the finale that the garment, which has become a wardrobe staple for millions of women worldwide, got its full birthday bumps. As confetti reigned down on the catwalk, the models stepped out in a variety of gold wraps – a fitting tribute to the dress that has made von Furstenberg a household name.
The enduring style, first made popular in the 1970s, is a favourite for many women owing to its easy, flattering shape. It can be at once glamorous and everyday – which is one of the reasons it continues to hold its place in wardrobes everywhere.
Although the wrap dress has never truly gone away, it is enjoying a resurgence at the moment thanks to the Oscar-nominated movie American Hustle, and the vintage Diane von Furstenberg dresses worn by Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams.
We're definitely digging out ours...
