Harrods

Ever fancied yourself as a bit of a jewellery designer? Think you can tell your onyx from your amethyst? Today sees the launch of the new Monica Vinader Stone Bar at Harrods, where you can do just that.

The jewellery designer whose eclectic pieces reflect a life spent hopping around the globe has handed the creative mantle over to her customers. The bar allows you to choose from an array of semi-precious gems, rather like a posh pick n' mix, to create pieces that are entirely one-off. You can put together your very own charm bracelet or necklace, make one for a friend, or mix and match from the selection of Monica Vinader stacking rings. Perfect if you're after something statement for summer, but nothing in the shops was quite what you were looking for. Plus it's a good way to ensure you'll be the only one at the party wearing your necklace; unless someone spies it and pops down to make one themselves. In which case you might be inspired to set up your own line...

Harrods, prices start from £38 for charms and £55 for rings, with statement pieces up to £1,995 in 18ct gold and diamonds.
