Cate Blanchett On British Fashion And How To Rock A Red Carpet

Cate Blanchett talks Victoria Beckham, Christopher Kane and her red carpet regime...

Cate Blanchett is no stranger to the red carpet and with Oscar season set to swing in her favour, we’ve been getting top tips from the Blue Jasmine star.

‘It starts with a dress really, and there’s so many fabulous dresses,’ she told us.

But when it comes to beauty, the Global Ambassador for SK-II revealed: ‘With any event, I’d always wear a [face] mask on the day, I don’t really prepare before that, so a whitening mask or SK-II's facial treatment mask… And then I’ll put an eye mask in the freezer or the fridge.

‘And then make sure you’ve got a bit of Peggy Lee of Nina Simone on your iPod.’

The beauty icon does have a few names in mind for her designer of choice though, adding: ‘I love Armani, I love Givenchy, Stella McCartney, and Rodarte, Lanvin.

‘I love new designers as well. It depends on the event… I love dressing up, it’s all costume to me. But you can admire a beautiful dress, but think ‘ugh, that won’t work on me’, and you don’t want the dress to wear you.’

Proclaiming her love for the red carpet; the men’s penguin suits and the informal atmosphere (we’ll take her word for it), Cate has her eye on a few British designer’s too.

Who would she love to wear next? ‘Christopher Kane, for sure, and I think what Sarah Burton is doing at McQueen is really fab.’

‘I think what [Victoria Beckham] does is fabulous. Really, really elegant.’

Off the red carpet, the Oscar-winning actress covets Stella McCartney, as well as ‘Rag & Bone, Armani, Celine and Givenchy’, but confesses her penchant for ‘a good sloppy pant’.

‘I’m not necessarily into fashion for fashion’s sake,’ the mum-of-three admits.

But on the possibility of creating her own line one day, she told us: ‘You collaborate with costume designers every time you create a character, so maybe it would be an extension of that, but I hadn’t thought about it before.’

SK-II is available exclusively on counter at Harrods and online at
