Dissecting Cara Delevingne’s Suicide Squad Tour Wardrobe

Cara Delevingne is SLAYING right now

Cara Delevingne is not holding back when it comes to dressing up for her Suicide Squad promo tour. From the ripped jeans and hoodies we got to know her with to today’s sleek, chic jumpsuits, Cara is the only style-inspo we’re double-tapping right now. Need proof? Take a look at her latest looks, with an added helping of fashion commentary from InStyle's Shopping Editor, Josh Newis-Smith…

1. London calling; Cara does lace, leather and smokey, sultry eyeshadow

Josh says... This is nothing short of EVERYTHING: Pretty Woman pre make-over meets the Vivienne Westwood punk years via The Woman In Black with a side helping of Bridget Jones’ pants. Punching the ‘decayed glamour’ trend in the face with this punk inspired ensemble, Cara revs up the the biker jacket, which has long been used to bring a certain edge to red carpet proceedings.

2. If you're going to go all-out, you might as well do it at the Suicide Squad world premiere...

Josh says... The vibe here is what I would like to christen, flapper girl punk: whilst the snazzy silver eyeshadow and chic curls are a jive away from the 1920s, the dress which appears to be two pieces of fabric stapled together in a GCSE textiles project fashion, strums like a 1970s rebel. Side note: another day, another pair of bum grazer boots, clearly the Cara clothing cornerstone ATM.

3. Part school-girl, part Victoriana, part goth

Josh says... When you don't have a pair of bum grazers to hand, wear thigh-high socks instead. St Trinians have got nothing on this as yet again Cara mixes together a unique blend of sixties styling. It's as if Cara has borrowed a baby doll dress from conservative Taylor post sleepover and tried her damn hardest to make it her own.

4. We are SO here for Cara’s ‘60s inspired look. There’s a lot of texture going on in that Emanuel Ungaro short and shirt combo, and somehow those thigh-high leather boots just work.

Josh says… Cara brings new life to the somewhat worn out 1960s trend by adding some serious va-va-voom and a small helping of Coronation Street barmaid vibez. I mean have we been harking back to the 1960s since January 1st 1970? I think so! Fishnets are rarely attempted by the A-list and it goes to show Cara is definitely bring a new quirk to press tour dressing with flashes of sheer, a few thigh high boots, many a midriff and the odd fish net too - you wouldn’t catch her Suicide Squad co-star, Margot Robbie, in any of that.

5. The buns. The mesh. The green satin sash. Cara is serving serious ‘90s vibes in this Alexandre Vauthier jumpsuit, topped off with double buns (styled by Kardashian fave and hairstylist to the stars Jen Atkin).

Josh says… A flash of sheer here, an origami inspired belt there and a caged heel might be enough of a statement for most movie stars. But not Cara Delevingne! If ANY one can get away with a Princess Leia meets Minnie Mouse double hair bun situation, it’s her. On anyone else it would look like a badly thought through attempt at getting the Little Mix look.

6. Who says you can’t wear black in summer? Let this be a lesson in how to wear a Zuhair Murad sheer lace shirt if you don’t want to #freethenipple.

Josh says… Miranda Priestly once said, ‘florals for spring, ground breaking!’ But here Cara proves the fictional high priestess of fashion wrong, by teaming her floral suede mini skirt with bum grazing Christian Louboutin boots. All of a sudden with the reveal and conceal lace thrown into the mix too, florals seem so bad bitch it hurts. Even the classic go to across the world, the smoky eye seems fresh- she deserves a medal for that alone. Related side note: dying over those braids too.

7. We call this look how to wear Versace the cool-girl way, by Cara Delevingne.

Josh says… If you want to crack America you can’t look like an east London slob aka Cara Delevingne in a cartoon beanie hat, joggers and high top trainers circa her off duty modelling years. Movie stars have to reach another level of glamour, so step forward Cara’s new super stylists, Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn who have J-Lo, Ciara and Lily Collins in their client book. This Versace two piece is a prime example of the duo’s strategy for Cara: keep an element of the tomboy, sharpen up the sporty style and add a flash of flesh.

8. If you ever wondered if you could wear sequinned camo joggers at a press call, Cara says yes (it helps if they’re DSquared2).

Josh says… Talk about trying to tailor up the TLC camo look! It’s half Jenna Lyons of J Crew fame, half Action man, and those are two disparate references that shouldn’t be thrown together. Instead let’s focus on the new hair. There is still an element of old school Cara’s, ‘I just got outta bed babe,’ look but there is a whole other level of gloss added. Plus she goes to show how versatile a short hairstyle can be, one minute it moonlights as an edgy Minnie Mouse and the next it’s plaited to perfection.
