As Royal Ascot Racecourse opens its doors today for the summer season, take a tip from these street stylistas on how to work Ladies Day style like the fash-pack

The annual Ascot Racecourse celebrations officially kick off today with a host of races seeing us through to the iconic Ladies Day on Saturday the 21st of June. Whether you're lucky enough to be going or just love any occasion that sees pretty frocks and OTT hats come together, you'll definitely want to take a look at our tips on how to take on Ascot like a style pro...

Don't underestimate the power of a floor sweeping maxi dress; nothing commands grandeaur quite like a printed silk style that starts high on the neck and finishes right down at your pedi. Look out for pretty textures like lace and broiderie to add another dimention to the copious amounts of fabric.

There are only a few occasions where feathers and (faux) fur are completely acceptable, and Ascot is definitely one of them. Make the most of the opportunity by investing in a feather skirt or frock - Ulyana Sergeenko's white version of her own design looks gorgeously angelic and there's one just like it at Coast. Liven it up just like the couturier with a pair of colour-pop courts.

Kate Middleton has been wearing them non-stop over the past few weeks, so you can put money on the fact that coat dresses are going to be big news on Ladies Day come the 21st. Keep your accessories minimal and don't forget to belt it to really show off your frame.

Coordinate until you can coordinate no more. Nothing pulls an outfit together quite like sticking to one or two tones and working the rest of your outfit around them. Notice how this street-styler has taken the complimentry hues of lilac and powder blue and decked her entire look around them to create a seriously polished finish. The trick is to take bright colours and tone them down by matching with muted versions of themselves. Just follow that one rule and you won't put a fashion foot wrong.

So, there you have it: the fashion girl's take on how to take on Ascot with serious style. Just don't forget your fascinator...
