Cast your mind back to the late '90s and you'll remember a few things. Take That still had five members, Mars bars were practically the size of metre sticks (give or take a few centimetres) and Adidas tracksuits were all the rage. Whether you were heading round to your pals for a sleepover or making your way to the school disco, chances are you were rocking your brand new three stripe jogging bottoms and matching zip-up jacket, which you begged your mum to buy you along with Warehouse cross strap bags and those trainers with the lights in. You were the shit, and you knew it. Everyone knew it. And you had Mel C from the Spice Girls to thank. Those were the days.
Fast forward a few years to the mid '00s and the Adidas tracksuit was back on the scene with the likes of Gwen Stefani and Snoop Dogg rocking them to awards ceremonies, album signings and nights out — anywhere bar the gym, basically — styling them out with everything from gold chains to platform heels.
Now, as they say, it looks like what goes around comes around, and the Adidas three stripe tracksuit is officially back on the fashion map, and it's already enlisting a loyal band of A-list followers.
In fact, Kylie Jenner has already got in on the action for herself, rocking the three stripe jacket and joggers with the label's iconic Superstar kicks to boot. Now that's what we call dedication to the trend.
Over the course of the weekend, the 18-year-old starlet dusted her set off once more, swapping the zip-up top for a laid back tee instead.
Of course, the trackies didn't really go anywhere but now that ASOS has included the tracksuit in its latest drop of new season stock, you can guarantee it's going to start making major waves on the street style scene.
So, how can you pull it off in 2015 without looking like your heading to a Vicky Pollard convention? Side note: We know that she was a Kappa girl, but you get the gist.
- Break up the separated by styling them out with something unexpected in between — a denim shirt or a paired back crop top will do the trick.
- If you dare to wear yours with heels, make sure they're strappy and minimal. Any embellishment or fuss will push the trackies over the garish point of no return.
- Don't be afraid to mix up your Adidas jacket and joggers with another set — just be sure to stay away from bright colours. A printed version of jacket with dark, one-colour trousers is the look you should go for. Or vice-versa of course.
We have to admit, although we didn't expect to see a tracksuit at the top of our shopping wish lists, we're definitely into it. See you at the cyber checkout...
