Keds Turns 100 Years Old

Last week Keds kicked off New York Fashion Week with a star studded party co-hosted by Refinery 29 to commemorate an incredible 100 years of the iconic sneaker brand . InStyle flew over to join the celebrations…

100 Years – that’s a long time!

I know, right!? Keds launched in 1916 and were the first real sneaker brand for women. Their ‘Champion’ was the casual shoe of choice for the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn as well Baby in Dirty Dancing (you remember that ‘Hungry Eyes’ scene) and my personal favourite – Kelly, from Saved by the Bell.

Was the party everything you dreamed of and more?

Well aside from megastar Ciara making her own Keds song up on the spot to celebrate the #LadiesFirst campaign (AMAZING!), Girls actress, and part of the Keds collective, Allison Williams hosted the event at a an awesome warehouse in Manhattan’s West Village. New York It girl Harley Viera-Newton was spinning on the decks and we hit the dancefloor with Beyonce’s stylist Ty Hunter, Jamie Chung and our home grown Bille J D Porter and Niomi Smart (InStyle Project13 winner).

I LOVE Ciara and Allison Williams…

So do Keds. That’s why they launched their Keds Collective, a group of powerful and creative women who embody the brand, which they are both a part of. As well as Taylor (obvz) and singer-songwriter Tori Kelly.

Girl power! I need to get myself a new pair of Keds then!

If you can hold off until March you can pick up a pair from The Blue Collection, which have been made to commemorate the brand’s 100th birthday. We’ll be rocking these shiny cobalt slip-ons. Available from
