Roll neck jumpers, turtleneck jumpers, polo neck jumpers... Whatever you want to call it, the high neck hero is our favourite knitwear as we come into autumn.
In fact, the prospect of chunky jumpers is one of the only things that make the falling temperatures o-k.
As well as wearing them the conventional way — with denim — they can prolong your summer outfits. Sleeveless ruffle dresses and pinafores can serve you well into winter with a layer underneath.
Thinking forward to winter and ‘Christmas party season’, they’re the simplest way to keep things casual. Whether it’s a luxe brocade or velvet dress, a polo neck can just make things a bit more daytime. Wear with a slim ankle boot for a real AM to PM look.
The Insta-folk have got on board with the layering too — last season, we saw Helena Bordon layer her floral Valentino dress over an off-white roll neck.

Marc Cain’s pink pops are our new favourite thing for layering under everything. That Pepto Bismol shade is weirdly flattering, and can get you out of a monochromatic rut.
We’ll be wearing Eric Bompard’s classic red sweater until it falls apart too. Make that colour pop with a pale denim — maybe a high-waisted mom-ish jean and loafers. Look to Kendall for bookish off-duty inspiration. Granny classes optional (but recommended).
