Gingham is one of SS15’s biggest print trends – and we’re a bit obsessed.
The classic checked print has been around since, well, forever ago; definitely the 1800s at least. (Seriously, think about that...)
Well, turns out the trend has come right back around. Again. For SS15, gingham is back. Though Oscar de la Renta showed oversized gingham and Diane von Furstenberg worked with small panels, it’s essentially the same classic print it’s always been.
The difference is, gingham got serious. Championed by Altuzarra, joining the flirty bralets and ditsy silhouettes, there are now workwear-friendly silhouettes. Think tailored blazers and matching pencil skirts. Not only have Oscar de la Renta got structured separates but Oasis and Hobbs have followed suit with crop tops and midi skirts.
It's having a colour pop moment too. Make a change from the classic black and white, and a little girly fun into your wardrobe with pastel pink, blue or even green checks.
Everyone’s going mad for it; from the fashion week FROWers to even the least likely designers. Victoria Beckham, for one.
It’s the perfect print for summer. We’re loving the laidback bralette or crop top and maxi skirt outfits (look to Michael Kor's SS15 collection); whether you opt for a block colour maxi and gingham top, or vice versa. Lisa Marie Fernandez is creating our summer vision right now. From the gingham bikinis to the maxi skirts and dresses, we want it all.
If you’re lusting over the Lisa Marie Fernandez maxi dress (because, who isn’t?), you’ll be interested to know Monki have a pair of separates that paired together will recreate the look for £60. Not only that but you can always mix and match them into your summer wardrobe.
The fash pack have given us a lot of gingham styling inspo, but our favourites have got to be Dree Hemingway in a gingham maxi skirt and black bralette and Dakota Johnson’s double print coat and skirt combo.
