Flat shoes have replaced heels BIG time and the message is clear from the catwalks: flats are (still) back...

Flat shoes have totally replaced heels, and we couldn't have been happier about it. Gone are the days when the fashion girls teetered around in stilettos, falling over the Somerset House cobblestones, now the cool crowd are wearing trainers, brogues and mannish loafers.

Though it looked as if they were slowly making their way back, with more inches than we'd seen for a while at SS17, with models - even at Vuitton and Gucci - in blockish heeled loafers and boots, the message from the fashion elite is clear: flats are (still) back. (Phew.)

If you want to add some inches, a chunky sole is the cool way to boost.

From monk shoes, classic Oxford brogues and loafers, to printed sneakers, trainers and embellished slippers, the flat shoe is hot and there's a lot to choose from.

Not that anyone will be TOO surprised by the versatiliy of flat shoes anymore, but they're perfect for giving evening wear a cool, dressed-down edge - as Alexa Chung proved at London Fashion Week - and now you can even wear trainers to work... Yes, workwear trainers are a thing! Our favourite office look RN is going a bit gender neutral with a suit and trainers or loafers.

With the grey weather solidly back, we're looking forward to chunky mannish shoes like brogues and loafers with socks (which we've seen on all the hottest street stylers in recent weeks).

Our reigning best shoe is still the embroidered loafer — back or not, they'll give any look a Insta-gold edge.

One of the best thing about this season's flat shoe is they can be worn with pretty much everything. Still not sure? Our resident flat fanatic Hannah Rochell shows you how to wear trainers with YOUR wardrobe.
