The British winter is officially here. Well, actually the official start of winter is oddly sometime late in December, but it seemed to be upon us a few weeks ago.
The chat was all about the late Indian summer, and then POW - the clocks go back, everyone gets identical flu-like illnesses and leaving the house becomes unbearable.
Though the idea of holing up and not leaving the house until spring is infinitely the most tempting idea of all, it’s not deemed acceptable. (Boring, we know.)
The only think to make getting out of the house even slightly feasible, especially at that time we’re expected to get out for work, is a proper outfit. We don’t mean bare skin in the face of subzero temperatures, we mean stylish but sensibly warm – a solid winter coat and some serious accessories.
Our favourite this season is the faux fur scarf. Chic, cosy and infinitely wearable for work over a coat, weekend just thrown over a jumper, and even into party season. In fact, that’s when they get the attention they deserve – slung over a floral dress or matching suit.
Lots of designers are making their version of the faux fur scarf, from Florence Bridge to Helen Moore and Charlotte Simone. All our favourite high street stores have got versions on a budget, too –Topshop, ASOS, Whistles and Reiss.
Florence Bridge, who creates shearling and faux fur styles, said of her Cosima Stripe Collar: ‘Snuggle up in faux fur stripes - this scarf adds a statement to any look and will keep you warm all winter!’.
They’re the perfect amount of out-there and elegant, and pick the right colour and it’ll go under the radar – just a fancy fluffy collar on your coat like it's NBD.
Faux fur yourself for winter, right now.
