Leopard print is back — again.
This season, it’s less about the Pat Butcher garishness of the faux fur coat (though, of course, there’s that too), but about working the now-almost neutral print in with ladylike looks.
It featured heavily at the AW16 shows, as did the whole animal kingdom — Emanuel Ungaro pushed mix and match boundaries, teaming it with florals and high shine metallics. At Givenchy, it was more of a jungle vibe with an Egyptian twist — leopard and snake print sat alongside heady block prints, with uber-cropped jackets and boxy fits.
It’s already made an appearance at SS17. Along with the bejeweled Crocs at Christopher Kane, the designer paid homage to the last 10 years in his anniversary show, with a sassy flash of leopard print featuring in the looks.

Kendall’s look as she arrived at Marc Jacobs was, well, leopard heavy — a slinky slip dress layered with a blazer made for quite a leopard-centric look. One that, no doubt, Kate Moss — an avid wearer of the leopard blazer — would have rated.
Leopard was for once a no-show at Topshop Unique, with zebra taking over as the animal print theme.
Wearing leopard print isn’t as tricky as it seems, and it doesn’t have to be ironic granny chic anymore. We’re seeing lots of sleek buys hitting the high street — ruffle shirts, midi dresses and boxy skirts — that can be worn with chic staples for an actually affordable take on the Saint Laurent look.
As ever, the French label is our leopard destination — we want every single one of the prettiest and preciousest pieces, especially the high neck folky style dress. (Over £2,000, what?)
If you’re a leopard-phobe, the easiest way to wear it is on your feet; boots, sneakers, backless loafers… Just wear with all black and you’re good. You can even wear it to work — Hobbs’ pointed flats are totally office-appropriate.
Our new season best way to dress it down, however, is in a kind of pyjama vibe. Kate Moss x Equipment’s slinky separates are what we want to be wearing all day, every day.
