It’s time to start shopping outerwear again. We're half mourning the summer sun and we're half ready to wear our winter wardrobe (and not just on days we misjudge the weather and nearly keel over on the tube).
We’re sure there will be the usual 'Indian summer', but it’s not very reliable and the occasional rainy day means we need a light jacket to get us to autumn and for those warm wintery days when a thick wool coat is just too much.
Lucky for us, though the British weather isn’t exactly perfect, there’s a load of very shoppable jackets dropping in shops now.
We’re liking the classics, but with a new season twist at the moment, like Vetements khaki bomber with the grey hood, as well as M.I.H’s painter-style denim jacket. Coloured leathers are fun too. While we’ve all done the black biker to death (but who really cares?) there are more fun shades on the high street like Mango’s petrol blue.
Blazers do not get our vote, when it comes to a smart jacket for work or weddings so we’re swapping the classic tailored (and boring) style for embroidered jackets or slinky blazers that are just undeniably cooler.
Wear & Other Stories’ navy bomber over a slip dress with a mid-heel for the coolest (and easiest) wedding season look. Keep your hair and make-up simple — wear it down or in a polished ponytail, with a bronzed complexion or a red lip.
If you’re not feeling a dress for the smarter occasions, we’ve got a lot of time for a trouser suit. Not like a tailored flammable two-piece, but a pyjama-fit silky set. Chloe’s tie-up jacket is the dream, but & Other Stories has got a similar emperor jacket we’ll be wearing over a swishy wide-leg trouser with heels.
