70s fashion is having the biggest renaissance since, well, the seventies.
The trend has definitely made its mark in the fashion industry, from the likes of Saint Laurent’s rock and roll princesses, Gucci’s new-age geek chic and Chloe’s flower power girl. The trend has also hit our screens in the new TV series Vinyl. The 10-part drama featuring Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple and the son of rock royalty, James Jagger, follows a New York music exec hustling to make a career in the city’s music scene. Set to be the new Mad Men, with just a little bit more sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, Vinyl throws you into the gritty atmosphere of the 70s cut-throat rock scene. It’s safe to say it’s all pretty groovy.
70s-inspired pieces were a big hit in the AW16 collections, with Burberry's revival of 70s glam-rock; all sheepskin coats and floral sequin dresses. The 70s cool girl groupie vibe has been a Saint Laurent staple over the past few seasons, with swinging skinny tassle scarfs and metallic platforms.
Unsurprisingly, the wearable trend has worked its way onto the high street in a big way. H&M has a dreamy selection of floral maxis, shop at Urban Outfitters for staple retro pieces and go to ASOS to pick up your perfect statement 70s outerwear.
Don't fancy doing the trend head-to-toe? Just work a tasseled leather jacket or bucket bag into your wardrobe.
