Intro Deck:

Cool in Corduroy? Yep, that’s what’s going to happen. Prepare your wardrobe for a layered-up winter…

Chances are you probably associate corduroy with your grandpa, your old geography teacher or perhaps the wardrobe of Stranger Things’ Jonathan Byers? Right? Well forget about that all together and recalibrate your fashion-algorithms: For the first time in 30 years corduroy is making a comeback. And, quite frankly, we’re thrilled.

It was trend-trailblazer Ms. Prada who first showcased corduroy suits on the AW17 runways. Then Marc Jacobs chipped in with a matching mini skirt and, for the satisfaction of the Francophiles among us, Isabel Marant proudly presented powdery-pink wide-leg pants, of course, made of corduroy.

Obviously, not everything worn on the runway can be translated into our fashionable everyday life, nor do we always have the spare change to afford the newest designer gear (after all, who wears a Gucci fuzzy coat to the office? Conor McGregor maybe?). But considering that the new scandi brand Cords & Co, proclaims corduroy as the new denim, selling head-to-toe corduroy looks (even tops and hoodies), and other high street labels like Topshop, Mango and Zara are also joining in on the fashion #TBT, this trend is one to incorporate into your winter look.

And, perhaps, if you’re still left in disbelief that 2017 might be the year to give corduroy the recognition it deserves, take advice from the professionals. Join a corduroy-for-beginners-lesson from stylist Pernille Teisbaek and opt for a loud pair of heavy corduroy trousers, paired with a T-shirt or your favourite knit jumper and some sneakers.

Or, if you’re brave enough follow the lead of Alexa Chung. You can hardly go wrong with a corduroy mini dress or skirt.

For those of you ready to fully commit to this ribbed fashion delight, go hard or go home! Do as the Prada women do and wear your corduroy bottoms with a colour-matching corduroy top, throw over a coat and belt it up! This winter is the time to be bold with your maximalist fashion fantasies.

Corduroy can easily look super sexy and adds exciting structure to your layered look. So, go for it, and dare yourself to put on this timeless classic. Here are our favourite corduroy pieces…
