Sock Boots: Ultra Cool And Surprisingly Flattering. Meet This Season's Must-Have Silhouette
Vetements

There’s a new skintight silhouette in season for autumn winter but don’t worry, this one won’t have you furiously downloading a Joe Wicks waist training plan. Instead, your feet are the focus. Say hello to the sock boot, the key footwear trend to be seen hot-footing around in this season. Sure, the name isn’t sexy but trust us the resulting shape is especially with its leg lengthening, second skin effect. Just think of them as a fusion of contouring for your ankles and body-con for your arches.

This sock/ shoe hybrid first started trending, thanks to Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of both Vetements and Balenciaga who sent slick versions dubbed ‘knife booties’ with their pointy, sharp heel, down the runways. In acid pink or green, siren red and even floral printed, they quickly became something of a footwear fetish and it didn't take long for other brands to follow suit. From Stuart Weitzman's 'Clinger Bootie'  snapped on Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez to Kanye West's 'Yeezy' as seen on Emily Ratajowski, and a string of fast fashion chains churning out copy-cat versions, the cult appeal of the sock boot is now well underway.

Sure, the sock texture, may bring back nasal nightmare memories of discovering football socks at the bottom of the laundry basket, but the effects are well worth it. Almost hugging the ankle, they are brilliant at hiding cankles, while still cutting the leg at a flattering angle. If styling with jeans go for a straight, slightly cropped pair. They also look great with skirts, but either go for a mini or maxi as a midi can look unbalanced. Speaking of proportions, with a streamlined lower half, this is your chance to play with volume on top. Think oversized shirts and supersized knits.
