For so long cardigans have been associated with grandmas - and not in a granny chic kinda way, but in a frump Nora Batty kinda way. Now, for autumn/winter 2017, this prim and proper layer is now a fashionista’s go-to piece for cosying up in while still looking totally chic.

For me, it was Christopher Kane’s loose-knit stone embellished cardis that were draped off-the-shoulder over slinky dresses for spring/summer 17 (see photo below) that made the statement: cardigans are back.
It followed, then, that Miuccia Prada ensured they’re seriously in this season, too, as she gave her button-up knits a serious dose of bling for AW17 (see photo above). And, now, everyone else, from designers to the high street, have also given this cover-up the nod and gone to town with lengths, weights and prints.
The key is to wear this right. Not quite a throw-on-and-go piece, this does require some outfit-planning. My favourite way to rock a cardi is to chuck on a seriously chunky knit that’s at least to your knee in length and style it – super-slouchy, off-the-shoulder – over jeans and a tee. You’ll see this is a favourite with the likes of Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, too.
Or, perhaps, you're more about the Sienna Miller vibe (who isn't?), and want to let the cardi do all the talking. If so, opt for a short length fine knit that you can button up and wear on its own. This is still super sexy for autumn and looks great with a pair of straight leg jeans.
