Back Friday Trainer Deals

Our US neighbours have given us many things - the sitcom that never gets old AKA Friends, Starbucks iced frappuccinos and an addiction to Glossier's Haloscope but one of our most recent favourite imports is the concept of 'Black Friday.' Originating in Philadelphia, the concept and term has slowly made its way to the UK. Held annually the day after Thanksgiving in the US, on the 24th November, Black Friday is essentially the biggest shopping day of the year, with huge discounts across electrics, lifestyle, beauty and best of all fashion too. Last year, in the UK it was estimated that £1.27 billion was spent in the 24 hour period - up 16 per cent on 2015. Further research showed that Britons spent a record £5.8 billion over the four days between Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2016.  Online retailers took approximately £2.8 billion of this - up 20 per cent from £2.3 billion in 2015, according to the data. So with consumers really embracing the concept, 2017 is set to be even bigger and better, with even more retailers taking part.

Last year on Black Friday there were major savings to be made across clothing, shoes, jewellery and accessories but one of our fave categories to win on savings has to be trainers. River Island, Urban Outfitters, Guess, Miss Selfridge, House of Fraser, French Connection, Net-a-Porter, all offered 50% off selected lines. Plus The Outnet were offering a whooping 80% off selected items. November is also the ideal time to get those trainers, that you've have your eye on all summer but were priortising rosé and holidays over budget wise. Whether you're a total gym bunny or more of the type to wear for an #OOTD Insta post, everyone needs a decent pair of trainers. Here we break it down into the ultimate trainer wardrobe, yep we're totally making that a thing...

Best Black Friday Deals For Designer Trainers...

If you had to us five year ago that come 2017, we'd be willing to pay over £300 for a pair of trainers we would have LOL-ed. But then Alessandro Michele at Gucci sent embroidered trainers down the runway and we started calculating just how many packed lunches a pair would equal. The runways have been host to recently to a rubber-soled revolution with designers eschewing spindly stillettos for something with a bit more bounce. We saw buckles for Marques Almeida, Military crepes at Diesel Black Gold and not to mention a ton of sock trainers from the likes of Fendi and DKNY. Balenciaga did neoprene, Alexander McQueen came with velcro straps while Burberry played with their signature woven hertigage check. Gucci has become a fashion blogger's go-to with Tamara Kalinic, Doina and Leonie Hanne all street styled in them.

When it comes to work-out trainers, it can often feel like a work-out in just trying to figure out what's best for you. One thing is clear though, the trainers you need for say blasting through burpees are totally different to ones you need to nail a 10km run. If you love high intensity classes, you need something that will help cushion your feet, think rubber soles with a grip to avoid slipping. Asiscs are great for this. For gym classes that mix it up go for lightweight trainers that allow for multi-directional movement, Puma have this nailed. While for circuits look to Saucony which come with plenty of cushioning.
