How to put the fashion back into fascinators

Thank Kate Middleton, if you will, but wearing a fascinator is de riguer again. And with weddings, days at the races and garden parties popping up all summer, now's the time to get that look prepped and find the one that works for you.

It's important to check Royal Ascot's dress code before you go; because if you're in the Queen Anne enclosure a fascinator, hair piece or hat must be worn at all times. However if you are in the Royal Enclosure, only hats or fascinators with a base larger then 4inches are allowed.

We strongly recommend you buy your dress first; unless of course you’re planning to wear a bespoke pre-parade green, complete with horses on your head (and yes we spotted more than just the one of these a la’ Ascot 2016).  Yes we are super excited when we spot the weird and wonderful ‘fruit in bowls’ and ‘feathered peacocks’ if you managed to pull it out the bag; but for everyone else, it’s much easier to colour match your fascinator once you have your race day dress sorted.

The question is what styles will ensure you're looking uber chic and not Princess B at the Royal Wedding. Neutral and monochrome colour-ways are a great place to start; even if you have gone for a coloured dress. It means your look will be classic and timeless; and you’re less likely to look back and think WHYYY. Style-wise; think Audrey Hepburn circa 1960, and you’re on the right tracks to a fashion forward look. Our favourite style for this season is the disc fascinator that sits slightly slanted on your head. Super simple and Kate Middleton approved, this style works with your hair up or down adding a mature classy final touch to your look.

Whether you want something original, creative (and rather pricey) from independent milliners such as Philip Treacy or Lock Hatters or you want a something in between (John Lewis is a great option and doesn’t compromise on quality or style); then take a look at what our edit to ensure you’re stealing the show.
