It’s about time!
Finding a moment of time with Spiderman: Homecoming actor Tom Holland at our InStyle EE Rising Star Party ahead of the EE BAFTAs was a bit of a feat. Whenever you spotted his black hoodie and scarlet bomber jacket in the crowd, he was busy talking to somebody else - a fan, Caspar Lee, his manager. I eventually managed to grab the off-duty Spiderman for a quick word (a "walk and talk") and we managed to work around Marvel's infamous NDAs to talk about the upcoming Avengers films.
He shared what it was like working on Avengers: Infinity War - the next big team up movie in the franchise, which has been said to have over 60 characters spanning from Black Widow through to the Guardians of the Galaxy. He said, 'You come on set and there's some of your greatest idols you've been grown up watching for years. Everybody is so warm and welcoming and Marvel's done a great job of casting a group of people that are like-minded, free-willed and we all get on so well. It's like a big family.'
And as with his counterpart Peter Parker, he's found mentors amongst his co-stars. He continued, 'For me, as the youngest person on set, I'm always the kid. I feel like I've sort of been taken under the wing by the Avengers and it's the best wing to be under possible.'
While we'll have to wait till 2019 for the sequel to Tom Holland's standalone Spiderman film, there's been some exciting new developments in the Marvel universe. Black Panther made history as the first all-black superhero film in the franchise and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel is set to follow in its footsteps as Marvel's first female superhero movie.
When asked about the rise of female superhero films, Tom said, 'It's about time. It's about fucking time. Wonder Woman was such a triumph and rightly so. Captain Marvel I think will be revolutionary. Brie is so cool. She's so cool. Her costume is so brilliant, she's a fantastic actress. I don't know anything about the story but I know her mind and [producer Kevin Feige's] mind will bring such an incredible arc to the screen and it'll be brilliant. '
Avengers: Infinity War is slated for 27 April 2018 and Tom Holland will star alongside Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Karen Gillan and more. (We'd be here all day if we listed out everyone in the top-billed cast.)
