The 15 contestants for the new series of Strictly have been announced! Sequins at the ready….and keep dancing!
Strictly Come Dancing might not start until Saturday (September 5th), but we’re already excited now that the full line-up has been announced. As usual, there’s an amazing mix of personalities, ages and professions, so we can’t wait to see these guys in lycra strutting their stuff on the Strictly dance floor. And with live performances from Jess Glynne and Gregory Porter on the night, the first show is set to be a cracker. So who are the new contestants, and what can we expect from them? Read on…(disclaimer: we’re speculating massively! We’re not fortunetellers, guys).
Name: Peter Andre
You’d know him from: flaunting his abs in the Mysterious Girl video back in 1996. Then falling in love with, and subsequently marrying, Katie Price in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2004.
Most likely to: Reach third place because he’s quite a good dancer and is very likeable, but ultimately lose out to two much better dancers who aren’t as famous.
You’d know her from: More recently you’ll have seen Jamelia on ITV’s Loose Women, but we love her best for her 2003 single Superstar.
Most likely to: Have Bruno on his feet because her salsa is so good.
Name: Kellie Bright
You’d know her from: You might remember Kellie when she was just 13 in The Upper Hand, but you’re most likely to recognise her from Eastenders – she plays Linda Carter in the show.
Most likely to: Lack confidence, in spite of having attended the Sylvia Young stage school and being a great dancer.
Name: Carol Kirkwood
You’d know her from: Being on your TV every morning doing the weather on BBC Breakfast (she can get tips from previous contestant, Bill Turnbull, pictured here), and just generally being dead nice.
Most likely to: Stay in the show for ages and ages just because everyone loves her. Oh, and be Len’s favourite.
Name: Katie Derham
You’d know her from: She used to present ITN News but now spends her time at the BBC, both on the radio and presenting The Proms coverage.
Most likely to: Be incredibly elegant and get compliments from Darcey about her long neck and beautiful hand placement.
Name: Jay McGuinness
You’d know him from: Boy band The Wanted, whose most popular hit, All Time Low, reached number one in 2010.
Most likely to: Make the top 3 even though the majority of the Strictly audience has never heard of him. He went to dance school, and we always vote for a young lad who can really dance.
Name: Georgia May Foote
You’d know her from: To be honest, a lot of people won’t know her at all, but she’s been in Grange Hill and Coronation Street. She's also the youngest contestant in the show.
Most likely to: Get a rare 10 from Craig for a magical, romantic waltz.
Name: Daniel O’Donnell
You’d know him from: He’s you’re Auntie Judith’s favourite Irish singer and TV presenter. She’s seen him in concert 8 times.
Most likely to: Have no dancing talent whatsoever (sorry Daniel).
Name: Kirsty Gallacher
You’d know her from: She’s presented Sky Sports and Ant vs Dec on their Saturday Night Takeaway show, but she also won the 3rd series of Channel 4’s The Games.
Most likely to: Win. Don’t underestimate that competitive drive. (Although Peter Andre is the current bookie’s favourite, but we’re not into betting so we’re ignoring that)
Name: Anthony Ogogo
You’d know him from: This boxer won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2012 London Games.
Most likely to: Be an unexpectedly great dancer. He’s going to be pretty light on his feet, this one.
Name: Iwan Thomas
You’d know him from: If you’re into athletics you’ll recognise him but he’s also on the telly as a regular guest on both The Wright Stuff and Through The Keyhole (random!).
Most likely to: Not be able to be sexy in the rumba.
Name: Helen George
You’d know her from: She plays Trixi in BBC1’s Call The Midwife, and has also appeared in The Three Musketeers.
Most likely to: Look totally amazing in the costumes as well as being a very capable dancer; she studied musical theatre, so she ought to be good.
Name: Anita Rani
You’d know her from: She used to present Watchdog but is the newest member of the Countryfile team, where you might catch her trying out off-road Land Rover driving.
Most likely to: Hold her own against all the contestants who have previous dance training. There’s just something about her…we reckon she can move.
Name: Ainsley Harriott
You’d know him from: This celebrity chef presented Can’t Cook Won’t Cook and Ready, Steady Cook in the 90s and currently appears on ITV’s This Morning.
Most likely to: Be told by the judges it’s difficult for him to dance because he’s so tall (he’s 6 ft 3) and because he’s the oldest contestant.
Name: Jeremy Vine
You’d know him from: It’s his voice that’s more familiar; this guy’s been on BBC Radio 2 at lunch time for, like, ever.
Most likely to: Do a surprise amazing Tango. He used to be a punk, so he’s got the right attitude in there somewhere!
Now all that remains to be seen is who they get partnered with…
