X Factor Style Off - Cheryl VS Mel

As X Factor comes to an end with this weekend's finale, we look back at Mel and Cheryl's style choices throughout the series to see who will be crowned X Factor's sartorial Queen

The Looks

Simon might have poked fun at Cheryl's ruffled green Lanvin number – calling her 'Kermit' - but we loved it on her. Single-shoulder dresses were also BIG news on the SS15 catwalks so Cheryl's ahead of the fashion game with this one too.

Mel's bringing a sexy punch of Italian tailoring to the proceedings in this black Dolce and Gabbana suit. Those vampish scarlet nails and lips are also very Robert Palmer Addicted To Love glamazon (you might need to be over the age of 25 to get that reference).

We like the metallic belt detail cinching in this pale ruffled gown by Milanese designer Ermanno Scervino, plus the lampshade skirt is a clever old leg lengthening trick.

We'd spot that telltale Versace pattern a mile off. The cut and sporty neckline suit her figure, plus she knows when a bit of sexy 'Angelina Jolie side-leg' is called for.

We love this Zuhair Murad number for its pure glitzy, swishy drama. Cheryl has worn quite a bit of the Lebanese designer recently – and we can see why.

Nothing like arming yourself with a bit of hot pink Stella McCartney for your smoke-filled judge entrance. We like how she's wisely keep the accessories to a minimum here. And again, top marks for a strong Angelina side-leg pose.

@StellaMcCartney is always a good idea.

BOOM. Jean-Bernard's jaw must have dropped to the floor when she stepped out in this one. With all the intricate mirror and beaded detail running down this Naeem Khan dress – not to mention that feathery fishtail bottom – she's cleverly kept the hair and accessories simple. Also, not many people can pull off silver quite as well as Cheryl can.

This Peter Pilotto number might be our favourite Mel B look of the entire X Factor season. Everything from the cut and colour to that seriously figure-flattering criss-cross print makes this one an absolute winner. To borrow a phrase from her fellow judge Simon Cowell. "We didn't like it. We LOVED it."

We're guessing this lampshade Monique Lhuillier frock wasn't the most comfortable dress in the world to wear, but top marks here for impact. And while she might have her pins out, the high neckline keeps it all classy.

This hot off the catwalk J Mendel beauty is an excellent colour on Mel (she really can carry those brights) and she's teamed it with her favourite fierce accessory of choice: ultra spiky, ultra sexy Christian Louboutin perspex-sided heels.

Thanks @j_mendel From The Runway to Me!!!! 💋 feel soo lucky

Our Cheryl chose yet another epic Zuhair Murad number for last night's  X Factor Final. Christmas red? Check. Sequins galore? Double check. This might just be Cheryl's most glamorous (and most festive) outfit of the season.

Mel B made a triumphant return to the X Factor judge's desk last night sporting a textured Giles Couture gown. We're not sure about the bandage chic look but on Mel it somehow works. You go girl.

The Results

We've got to give it them, both judges put up a fabulous high fashion fight. We LOVE Cheryl's vampy scarlet Zuhair Murad number and her sheer commitment to all out glamour but the InStyle award for Best Dressed Judge has to go to Mel for THAT Peter Pilotto body-con creation. Super flattering, uber-fitted and championing a lesser known designer? How could we say no!
