But what did she look like before she became 'the' Mary Berry? We're sort of having a slight parent syndrome where it's impossible to imagine your mum looking any younger than 55, not wearing glasses and sporting the same perfect blow-dry everyday. But it did happen.

Check out these awesome vintage pics of Mary Berry in her retro heyday (admittedly before she became the style icon we all know and love).

Begging for more Bake Off? InStyle's Fashion Features Editor Hannah Rochell sums up 2015's series in numbers…

Ever wondered how many eggs are used in the Great British Bake Off? (answer: LOADS) With the new series of the BBC hit baking TV series on screens now, we take a look at the maths behind everyone’s favourite cake show. Get ready to feel hungry…

6 - the number of series of GBBO. It started in 2010 on BBC2 and moved over to BBC1 two years ago, after which point its viewing figures doubled.

40 – the average age of this year’s 12 contestants, who include a fire fighter (Mat, 37) and a bodybuilder (Ugne, 32). The youngest contestant is Flora (19) and the oldest is Marie (66), who admits she struggled to boil an egg when she started baking a few years ago. We’re already gunning for Dorret (53) because she can tap dance and has a cool Dickensian name.

127 – the number of times we estimate someone will say the words ‘soggy bottom’ throughout the series. We reckon the top offender will be housewives’ favourite Paul ‘Dreamy Eyes’ Hollywood.

30 – the number of challenges the contestants will be set, all of which are new ones created by judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Week one is cake week, and the first showstopper is Black Forest Gateau…chocolate, cherries and cream #retroclassic

1600 – the number of eggs used in the 2015 series. Coincidentally, this was also the number of people who applied to be in the show this year.
