After rumours circled at fashion week, it's been confirmed - Hedi Slimane is leaving his role at Saint Laurent.
The news was confirmed in a joint statement from Saint Laurent and Kering, its parent group, which describe Hedi's turnaround four years as creative director as a ' mission, which has led to a complete repositioning of the brand'.
François-Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive officer of Kering, said: 'What Yves Saint Laurent has achieved over the past four years represents a unique chapter in the history of the house
'I am very grateful to Hedi Slimane, and the whole Yves Saint Laurent team, for having set the path that the house has successfully embraced, and which will grant longevity to this legendary brand.'
It's thought his last few catwalk shows were foreshadowing his departure, while his last week held two massive announcements — the iconic Jane Birkin in the Le Smoking campaign and Cara Delevingne's 'return' to the modelling industry.
It's rumoured Anthony Vaccarello, creator of his eponymous label and current creative at Versus Versace, will take over the helm.
Hedi brought his edgy, grungy aesthetic to Saint Laurent, giving it a new contemporary direction — one that the celebrities rated.
