Harry Styles started out as a cheeky X Factor wannabe, but now? He’s a style inspiration all over the world. See his fashion transformation in full

Harry Styles has a wardrobe to die for. Seriously - Gucci suits and Saint Laurent shirts sit alongside skinny scarves, patent ankle boots and piles of skintight jeans, and that’s not even mentioning his impressive collection of outerwear. Shearling aviator jackets? Check. We’ll never forget that painted bomber jacket, either.

But Harry didn’t always dress this way. Starting out at 16 on the 7th series of The X Factor, Harry auditioned in a white t-shirt and grey cardigan, with that trademark curly hair a lot shorter than it is right now.

During the series, it was all about Jack Wills gilets, jogging-bottom shorts (shudder) and brightly coloured hoodies, graduating to a sleek suit for the X Factor live shows. Trust us, the Harry Styles we know and love in 2016 took a while to emerge from his t-shirt and chinos phase.

As 1D pretty much took over the world, Harry moved on to a look of airport chic – beanie hats, white t-shirts and skinny jeans were a firm Styles favourite, with some statement blazers to smarten things up on the red carpet. But around 2013, something changed. Maybe it was X Factor judge Nick Grimshaw’s influence, maybe it was the front row tickets to Burberry, House of Holland and Miu Miu, but Harry started to grow into his style icon status.

Brown leather aviator jackets? Yes. Grandad collar shirts under slim tux jackets? Into it. The appeal of a grey marl t-shirt can’t be underestimated either. Harry started to look more 60s mod than 18-year-old teen, with a growing ink collection to boot.

Now? The Cheshire chap is decked out in polkadot shirts and man jewellery, leopard print knits and vintage band tees. Saint Laurent ankle boots and Keith Richards-esque headscarves, checked shirts, trilby hats and even a chevron suit – Harry Styles is a veritable fashion icon.

So from then to now, here’s how Harry has changed…
