East Asian models are finally starting to make it into the modelling big leagues, and with girls like these, it’s about time! From China’s first sueprmodel Liu Wen to the coolest South Korean around, Soo Joo Park, you better get to know these names – fast.
She’s just been named as Maybelline’s first global Asian face (following on from Shu Pei who fronted the brand from 2010), so get to know I-Hua quick.
Liu has a lot of firsts under her belt: the first East Asian model to walk for Victoria’s Secret, the first East Asian spokesmodel for Estee Lauder and the first Asian model ever to land on Forbes’ highest paid models list, she’s easily China’s most notable super.
Soo Joo Park
From: South Korea
She’s a L’Oreal ambassador, walked more catwalks than we can name (Chanel, Moschino, Alexander Wang…) and had her face splashed across countless covers – we’re toally crushing on Soo Joo.
Fei Fei Sun
Starting out in 2009, Fei Fei has racked up 317k Instagram followers thanks to appearances in Chanel, Mulberry and Tom Ford, living it up at the Met Gala and generally being a badass.
The second East Asian model to walk that Victoria’s Secret catwalk, Sui is also an actress and started her print campaign career with Ralph Lauren. Not too shabby.
Starting out in a TV modelling competition, Ming made it into the big leagues with a Givenchy debut. She now has a catwalk CV as long as those legs, including Victoria’s Secret, Balmain, Karl Lagerfeld and Balenciaga.
Xiao Wen Ju
The first Chinese face of Marc Jacobs, Xiao Wen isn’t immune to a catwalk catastrophe; in 2012, she stalked down the Tibi runway in the wrong direction, but pulled it off like a pro.
Recognise Tao from Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice? The model turned actress moved to Paris at 21 to break the European catwalks. In 2009, she packed up and moved to New York, and chopped her locks into a now-iconic bowl cut.
Sayo is possibly the COOLEST model on this list – her Instagram is full of oh-so-chic black and white off-duty shots as well as snaps from her travels.
The Korea’s Next Top Model winner has taken fashion by storm since she debuted at Louis Vuitton Cruise 2015. After Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Fendi and Bottega Veneta, Nicolas Ghesquière booked Sora exclusively for Paris Fashion Week.
