Whilst not very well known on UK shores, in the US, Blake Shelton is what is known as A Very Big Deal. An A-list country and music star, pre-Gwen, he was married to Miranda Lambert, another main fixture of the US country and western scene. The two divorced in July this year, a month before Gwen announced her split from husband Gavin Rossdale.
Blake Shelton has been a judge on The Voice in the US since it's launch in 2010. In the states, the show is a major success which knocked American Idol off it's perch - it is now the biggest show of the year. If you need more convincing of his star status, he's on a level with the other Voice judges, namely Pharrell Williams, Adam Levine and, of course, Ms. Stefani.
At 6-foot-5, the 39-year-old is a man mountain but knows his appeal lies with him being perceived as the boy-next-door. "If there's one thing special about me," he has said in the past, " it's that I seem familiar. People feel like I live next door." His sister says. "The way he is on camera now is exactly the way he was when he was 10 years old."
He's straight outta Oklahoma and is a tractor-driving, straight shooter who laces his on-camera Starbucks cup with a shot of vodka. Blake plays up to his 'drinker' image although his Mum has said " "He likes to make people think he's drunk, but I've never seen that boy drunk in my life."
When he was just 14-years-old, tragedy struck when his brother, his girlfriend and their four-year-old son died in a car accident. "The guy was my hero," Shelton has said. "Talk about worship – he was the coolest guy on earth."
In March, he’ll be hosting the Kid’s Choice Awards. ““I’ve been on countless stages throughout my life, but none have promised the madness, excitement, and endless slime as Nick’s Kids’ Choice Awards, which is undoubtedly the ultimate party for kids,” he has said. Will Gwen be there – with her three boys – to celebrate him getting slimed?
