Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne
Ever wondered what the likes of Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch and Felicity Jones feast on at award ceremonies? Well we’ve got the scoop after being wined and dined by the Head Chef for the BAFTAs (it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it). A star-studded soirée warrants the crème de la crème of cuisine, so let’s hope the celebs haven’t got their tightest spanx on; they may need a little extra room for this mouth-watering menu…
First things first, the beverages! Not only will there be 200 Magnums of Taittinger Champagne and 1,200 bottles of wine served on the night; after all the posing for the papz and the red carpet demands, the nominees would’ve worked up a sweat, so they’ll refresh themselves with a bourbon cocktail dreamed up especially for this years’ awards. Delicious.
The patriotic menu using British produce is a masterpiece created by Grosvenor House’s executive chef, Nigel Boschetti, and BAFTA head chef, Anton Manganaro. The preparations for the dinner began six months ago with a team of 25 chefs tasting and testing before the final menu was approved. And with 1,950 stars to feed on the night the pressure must be on!
Guests will be offered a quartet of canapés – the smoked severn and wye salmon tartar, granary croute, cucumber pickle, fennel fronds and beetroot caviar – being our favourite.
The terrine of roasted and smoked salmon with avocado and crab salad starter had our taste buds dancing. We also liked the sound of the veggie option of smoked cheese arancini, celeriac and granny smith apple salad, port wine glaze and walnut oil dressing.
We died and went straight to heaven as the fragrance of the main course filled the room, this was before we’d even tasted it. We died again after that. The trio of beef - braised short rib, beef shin with a herb crust and beef fillet - was DIVINE.
For the grand finale… chocolate lovers unite! Iced cacao nib parfait with 90% Hotel Chocolat mousse, milk purée and kirsch soaked cherries #omnomnom.
The celebs will be gobbling away guilt-free, as Anton revealed that this was their healthiest BAFTA banquet yet. He said: “It’s the least carb-heavy meal we’ve created.”
