We spotted Sienna Miller on her way into the party...
We admit it, when the e-mail came through inviting us to Calvin Klein’s notoriously A-list annual party in Cannes we were even a little jealous of ourselves. Now in it’s fifth year, the starry soiree hosted by euphoria Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Collection and the IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project) aims to celebrate women in film as part of the 68th Cannes Film Festival. So what else could we do but don our glad-rags (a vintage dress from an LA flea-market if you’re interested) gulp down whatever bubbles were thrust in our hands and behold the scene before us (the most uber-luxurious villa you can imagine complete with grand piano and walls which doubled as waterfalls). Here’s what we saw/did:
Set in the hills overlooking Cannes, we may as well have been in the Hollywood Hills as the guests rolled in (quite literally – as golf buggies were put on for those of us who were somewhat incapacitated by ridiculous heels!). Guests included: Rachel Weisz (pictured below chatting to a guest), Isabelle Huppert, Melanie Laurent, Emily Blunt, Sienna Miller, Harvey Weinstein, a gaggle of supermodels including Natalia Vodianova (who was announced as the face of the new euphoria Calvin Klein ad campaign), Doutzen Kroes, Lily Donaldson and Joan Smalls (all of which were enough to keep us from going in for second helpings of the delicious spread).
What we ate:
It’s not often you find sandwiches (that’s full-fat wheat-laden sandwiches) and A-listers in the same vicinity, but sandwiches of all kinds there were (we were in France – the home of the carb after all) even if they mostly lay untouched. The table that was attracting the most attention was the seafood spread which included an orgy of lobsters, countless oysters (although we didn’t see any evidence of their reputed aphrodisiac effects taking place) as well as super-sized king prawns.
What we drank:
Champagne, champagne and more champagne. Bien sur.
Guests enjoyed a special set by DJ Harley Viera Newton before we were treated to the dreamy vocals of pop-rock (and achingly hip) band HAIM who had flown in from LA. We’re totally learning the drums/guitar/bass when we get back!
The focal point of the evening was definitely spotting Hollywood hottie Jake Gyllenhaal working the crowd but who sadly very politely declined to have his picture taken (although he did rub Beauty Director Cassie Steer’s arm as a consolation which will from henceforth remain unwashed).
