Beyoncé: 11, Taylor: 0 – The VMA Nominations 2016 Are In

VMA 2016 looks set to be a great year for Beyoncé, but Taylor might want to sit 2016 out…

Beyoncé slays the VMAs. Ever since (and even before) her mic-drop pregnancy announcement at the 2011 MTV VMAs, she’s been raking in the nominatons – and 2016 is no exception.  Queen Bey is up for 11 awards, including Video of the Year, Best Choreography and Breakthrough Long Form Video for her infamous Lemonade visual album, which seemed to call out Jay Z for cheating (cue lemon emojis).

Instagram husband Jay Z might not have come out of this whole situation too badly, though; having not released an album since Magna Carta Holy Grail in 2013, word is Jay has a record ready to drop at any second, and what better place than the VMA 2016 stage? Watch this space.

As for the other major news to come our the 2016 VMA nominations, Taylor Swift may well want to give this year’s ceremony a miss, landing a grand total of 0 nominations. After Bad Blood cleaned up in 2015, neither Wildest Dreams, Out Of The Woods or New Romantics picked up a nod.

What did was Kanye West’s controversial Famous, which is up for Video of the Year and Best Male Video, alongside Calvin Harris’s This Is What You Came For. Considering both boys have had bad blood with Taylor over the past few weeks (yes, Hiddleswift is less than two months old), we’re guessing Tay will either sit this one out, or put on a storming performance. Go big or go home.

Adele came in second, picking up eight nominations (7 of which are for Hello), while the late, ever great David Bowie was posthumously nominated for 4 VMA awards. As for the rest? Read the full list of 2016 VMA nominations below:
