Buzz, Woody and co. are back a little bit later than you think
It’s official! Our favourite A-listers are signing up thick and fast to star in these upcoming movie sequels, and we’re getting really excited to see those familiar faces back on the silver screen. Forget the rumours, here are the names confirmed to return to the movie sequels in the making.
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, Toy Story 4
Buzz and Woody fanatics had to wait 11 long years for the third instalment of Toy Story, but we'll have to wait just a tiny bit longer for Toy Story 4. After Tom Hanks confirmed that the fourth flick was officially in the works and due to be released in 2018, Pixar recently announced that they're pushing back the release date until 2019. It's apparently going in a 'very different direction' to the rest of the series, reported to be a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Tom Hanks, Patricia Arquette, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack are all heavily rumoured to return…
Colin Firth , Love Actually
Can it be? Should they? Is it really happening? Eric Fellner, co-founder of Working Title film productions, told The Independent that he’d love to make another Love Actually, ‘but that would all be about whether Richard Curtis wants to write another one. But that's one we often talk about.’ Colin Firth’s reaction was a little less enthusiastic, saying ‘Oh my goodness, you've just sent a shiver down my spine’, but he didn’t rule it out; ‘It's never been asked or suggested before. Would it need to be the same people? I don't know. Yeah, why not. I'll take whatever comes - just send me a good script and if the people are there…’
Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Hailee Steinfeld, Pitch Perfect 3
That’s right, pitches, it looks like the Barden Bellas will be pretty much reunited in Pitch Perfect 3, as Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Hailee Steinfeld have all confirmed they will return for their third turn at the ICCAs (that’s a national a cappella competition, have you watched the film?!). But there's about to be one big hole in Pitch Perfect 3, as Elizabeth Banks confirmed she will not be back to direct the third instalment! It's not like she's quitting forever - Banks will stay on as a producer, but with the timing of the third film taking longer than expected, Elizabeth had to take a step back due to her 'parental responsibilities'.
Still, with all the original Bellas having graduated, we can’t wait to see if Hailee aka Emily Junk will lead the Bellas to victory.
Remember the rumours of The Craft remake? Well, you can finally breath easy, because they're not true - let us explain! The film is hitting cinemas again, but it's set to be a sequel to the 1996 cult classic. 20 years after the original coven, the new film hasn't confirmed any cast members, but we will see what's going down in the present day. Spooky.
Angelina Jolie, Maleficent 2
It's been confirmed Angelina Jolie in returning in her role as the cheekboney semi-villain Maleficent! Although a release date hasn't been set, it's been announced Linda Woolverton, who wrote the first script, will be doing the second. It comes as a surprise after Angelina spoke about the possibility of a sequel in 2014, saying: 'I enjoyed it. I just feel like we did this one thoroughly and I don't think there'd be another […] I feel like this is the one, if I was going to ever do a Disney one, this is the one I wanted to do. And I think we've done it well.'
Anne Hathaway, Princess Diaries 3
If the director of the other films is to be belived — which obvs he is (we hope) — Anne is coming back for a THIRD installment of Princess Diaries. We can't believe it either... Speaking to People Magazine, Garry Marshall said: 'I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan. 'Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.' We know what you're wondering — is Chris Pine coming back? Marshall said: 'Maybe. He’s quite big now, you know.' We know.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, Fifty Shades Darker
The guilty-pleasure franchise might have lost Sam Taylor-Johnson as it’s director, but Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson will both return as the stars of Fifty Shades Darker, based on the erotic books of the same name. Cinema-goers will no doubt be extremely pleased that Northern Irish Dornan is set to reprise his role, and is apparently considering increasing his amount of nude scenes, but there's a new Mrs Grey in town... Kim Basinger, who you'll know from LA Confiential and 8 Mile, just confirmed that she's set to plan Christian's ex-lover and business partner. Not only that, Ana also has to compete with 50 shades newbie Arielle Kebbel (UnREAL, Ballers), who has just signed on to play a talented architect, tempting Christian in 50 Shades Freed...
Emma Stone, Cruella de Vil
This might not strictly be a sequel, but the 101 Dalmations spin-off, Cruella de Vil, has a pretty exciting leading lady. So who's playing the villainous puppy killer (not for real, of course...)? Emma Stone has been confirmed to play Cruella in the live action film, which will tell Cruella's life story.
Tyra Banks, Life Size
Remember Life Size?! We'd nearly forgotten this '00s teen classic, but after a little YouTube refresher we're pretty excited that it's making a comeback. Tyra Banks just confirmed that she will be returning to the Life Size sequel, where she plays a doll brought back to life by Lindsay Lohan. No word on LiLo's involvement just yet, but a Christmas 2016 release is rumoured.
Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde 3
Elle Woods, dust off those legal books! While this one isn't actually confirmed, Reese Witherspoon is all for a third instalment of Legally Blonde, telling super stylist and designer Rachel Zoe that "I think we're ready to see Elle and see what she's up to lately". Reese revealed that a lot of ideas for a third film have already been written, but it would be "kind of a cool thing to have her be…someone who runs for office. President!" This is not to be confused with Legally Blondes...
Orlando Bloom, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Reprising his role as Will Turner, Disney have confirmed that Orlando Bloom will be back on the ship for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Joining Jack Sparrow for the fifth instalment of the sea-faring series, the film is due out in 2017. Ex-Skins actress Kaya Scodelario is also set to star. Pass us the rum – we’re VERY excited about this one.
