Tinkerbell: How The Legacy Of The Original Toy Dog Will Live On FOREVER

Tinkerbell: How The Legacy Of The Original Toy Dog Will Live On FOREVER

Tinkerbell, Paris Hilton's adorable dog, may have sadly passed away but she definitely made her mark. No, seriously — this is one pup who changed the world for good...

This morning the world woke up to some terrible, terrible news — Tinkerbell, the beloved pet chihuahua of Paris Hilton, has moved on to doggy heaven after passing away due to old age at 14 (that's a whopping 72 in dog years) and we couldn't feel more sorry for Paris if we tried. After all, that pup was on her arm or in her dog-friendly handbag at any given opportunity and was her trusty companion through her Simple Life days and beyond. Soz, Nicole...

Taking to her Instagram to reveal the news, Paris was clearly very upset at the loss of her best friend. Posting a snap of her holding Tinkerbell close, she said: 'My heart is broken. I am so sad & devastated. After 14 amazing years together my baby Tinkerbell has passed away of old age. I feel like I've lost a member of my family. She was such a special & incredible soul. We went through so much together. I can't believe she's gone. I will miss her & think about her for the rest of my life. I love you Tinky, you are a Legend & will never be forgotten.'

Yep, it's pretty emotional stuff...

After the news spread around InStyle HQ, we realised that we all — regardless of our feelings towards dogs or Paris alike — have a certain kinship with the pooch that graced our TV screens and the pages of magazines for a pretty significant chunk of our lives. And, when you think about it, she was a bit of a legend in her own teeny tiny right.

Cast your mind back; can you think of any other A-list pooches before Tinkerbell? In fact, the phenomenon known as 'toy dogs' didn't even exist. Tinky was the first and original toy dog to find herself in the lime-light and can be directly attributed to the mini-dog boom that swept the globe back in the early noughties.

According to reports, today's toy dog industry is worth a colossal £2.7 BILLION and, arguably, Tinkerbell could be the one to thank.

Found in more designer gear than you could ever dream of owning, Paris used to dress up her furry friend in an array of jewel and even diamond encrusted collars, luxury label dog jumpers and super-fancy shoes. And, after being papped rocking them, she undeniably helped inspire the opening of hoards of dog spas, boutques and the launch of Harrods pet shop which stocks more decadent doggie goodies that you could shake a stick at.

Since then the likes of Cath Kidston, Ted Baker and American Apparel have all added dog attire to their high-street collections, meaning everyone could dress their dogs up to the nines without having the fortune of an heiress to fall back on.

So, in honour of Tinkerbell's influential life we've looked back at some of her best looks. If there's one thing you can say about her (other than the fact she's ADORABLE) it's that she had serious swag...

Who says green and pink don't go together?
