Rihanna is a starlet you can count on like clockwork to push fashion's most regulated boundaries - her totally see-through dress is just one of the many, many looks that spring to mind – but after a series of sophisticated outfits that belong anywhere but the worst-dressed lists, we're beginning to wonder if Rihanna had toned down her look for good.
Then New York Fashion Week happened.
Ok, so we get the fact that when you're attending show after show and party after party, even the prettiest of dresses can start to weigh on even the most stylish of girls. So, who can blame RiRi for wanting to shake up her looks between events? However, as we have come to learn, changing your look isn't always good move; even when your one of the world's brightest stars.
Take a look at Rihanna's, ahem, ever-changing NYFW wardrobe and see which ensembles work for you...
Taking her new favourite Christian Louboutin heels out for yet another spin, Ri looked somewhat angelic in this all-white get up. The high neckline of her dress evens out the micro hemline with ease, and that effortlessly chic string of pearls gives the entire ensemble an air of sophistication.
Ri strikes the perfect balance between raunchy and stylish with this look which she rocked at the Altuzarra show. Yes she might be wearing a blazer with, yes, just a plunge bodysuit underneath but this is Rihanna at her unapologetic and provocative best. Plus, we're crushing on the tassel trim and those layered necklaces...
There's a time and a place for the bucket hats and the Alexander Wang FROW just isn't one of them. They belong in your childhood with the likes of blow-up rucksacks, smelly gel pens and topless posters of Justin Timberlake back when he was the hottest thing N'Sync had to offer. Diiiirtty Pop...
Oversized silhouettes are a fash pack go-to and we're so glad Rihanna's taken note. Working another plunge neckline and sticking to a crisp white hue at the EDUN show, she ups the style ante with a fierce-looking choker necklace. A tan lip and dewy complexion nail the '90s feels she's going for without having to resort to underhand, bright eyeshadow tactics. Bravo, Ri.
Ok, so we've got major love for Rihanna for sporting this two-piece set from Alexander Wang's forthcoming collection for H&M but, with her new balance kicks, this outfit looks more suitable for the treadmill than the catwalk. This might not be Ri's finest NYFW moment, but we guess she gets an A* for comfort...
Rihanna goes back to her Pon De Replay (what a tune, huh?) best with this ensemble which she sported to the Versus Versace catwalk. A bright coloured mini paired with a crop top might not sound noteworthy, but on Ri less is definitely more. The gold safety pins, studded heels and statement metal earrings bring the look home and give it that street-style finesse that Rihanna does so well.
So, there you have it. With a ratio of 4:2 in Rihanna's sartorial favour, we reckon she's doing pretty well. The only thing with RiRi is that you can never guess what she's going to don next.
We wait with bated breath...
