Casey Affleck made his directorial debut last night at the Venice Film Festival with the documentary I’m Still Here, about his brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix. The younger Affleck brother, who is married to Phoenix’s sister, Summer, arrived at the premiere looking dapper but kept mum about the true nature of the film: is it a real account of a year in the life of the Oscar-winning actor’s mysterious career change to hip-hop artist or a set-up?
Affleck said: “Elliptically, I would say... I sincerely don't want to influence people's interpretation. I can tell you there is no hoax. It makes me think of 'Candid Camera' or something."
The mystery was heightened when Phoenix was spotted arriving to Venice by river boat but was a no-show at the premiere.
Meanwhile, Michelle Williams was looking as fashionable as ever in a Marc Jacobs check sundress and killer Giuseppe Zanotti sandals as she hit the streets of Venice.
