Strictly Come Dancing 2016: Dancer Brendan Cole Replaced Following Sudden Illness

All the news from Strictly Come Dancing 2016...

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 is well underway, and it's safe to say there's already been quite a lot of drama. Last week's decision from Will Young to quit the show due to 'personal reasons' came as somewhat of a shock to Strictly fans, especially as he was a bookie's favourites to win the show. And now, an unexpected illness has forced professional dancer Brendan Cole to withdraw from this week's rehearsals.

Brendan revealed that he was suffering with a chest infection, while appearing on BBC Two spin-off show Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. It's been confirmed that Strictly dancer Gorka Marquez — who was voted out alongside Tameka Empson in week two — will replace him until he feels better. He was due to perform a quickstep to Frank Sinatra's My Kind of Town with celeb partner Anastacia this weekend, but has been advised by doctors to rest until the end of the week. When asked by Zoe Ball if he'd be well enough to perform on Saturday, Brendan replied:

'I'll see the doctor again. He said take off until Thursday/Friday at least, and then we'll see.'

This Strictly drama is the latest controversy to befall the show, following a troubled few weeks of programming that saw contestants KISSFM's Melvin Odoom and Eastenders' Tameka Empson leave the dancefloor in somewhat questionable circumstances.

Either way, we do help that Brendan feels better soon.

So, who is left in the competition?

Ed Balls
Former former shadow chancellor Ed Balls is already doing quite well in the competition, in fact Ex-Labour leader Ed Miliband has deemed him a 'national treasure'. Who knew?

Laura Whitmore
Laura Whitmore has survived last week's dance off, and is currently performing well in Strictly. She's been hampered by rumours that she's in fact dating dance partner Giovanni Pernice, but has furiously denied any romantic involvement.

Ore Oduba
BBC presenter Ore Oduba has been wowing the judges, particularly with his American Smooth performance of Singin' In The Rain. Bruno Tonioli declared that 'Gene Kelly himself would be proud'.

Louise Redknapp
Former Eternal star is taking an impressive turn on the Strictly dancefloor this season, and we aren't really too surprised. She attended the Italia Conti Academy which is famous for producing star material.

Danny Mac
The outright star of Strictly 2016 thus far, Hollyoaks' star Danny Mac apparently has turned down the show four time before... due to nerves. Speaking on Nick Grimshaw's breakfast show, Danny admitted that the pressure of appearing on Strictly was something he's seriously have to consider before signing up.

'People mention the viewing figures all day long and it leaves you physically wanting to throw up,' he said.

'I’ve never known nerves like it in my life. I think, being an actor it turns into adrenaline which then hopefully turns into performance.'

Daisy Lowe
Swapping the catwalk for the dancefloor, Daisy Lowe has excelled so far with partner Aljaz Skorjanec. She has seen the bottom of the leader board, yet we feel Daisy is a definite one-to-watch. Keep your eyes peeled.

Singer Anastacia caused a small Strictly upset when she bowed out of her dance-off due to injury, resulting in Melvin Odoom being sent home by public vote. She has however remained gracious despite the public backlash.

Claudia Fragapane
Olympic gymnast Claudia has a definite advantage over the other dancers, being that she is a) already used to wearing spandex, and b) can do back flips. Partner AJ Pritchard has already praised Claudia's skills, oh and she's pretty high up on the bookie's board to win.

Greg Rutherford
Olympic medallist Greg is another athlete with all the skills, clinching an impressive four 8s from the judges during week three for his American Smooth performance. He even managed to impress the notoriously-critical Craig Revel Horwood. Another bookie's fave, Greg could claim the Strictly crown.

Leslie Joseph
Breaking the record for becoming Strictly's oldest contestant (she's 70, doesn't she look amazing?) and bagging the mum's favourite Anton Du Beke as her dance partner, Birds of a Feather's Leslie is a popular contestant. Plus, she looks smashing in those sequins.
