Yes, you heard that right; your favourite girl band is back.
It’s been reported that the group, minus Victoria Beckham a.k.a Posh Spice, are planning an around the world tour next year. 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Wannabe, their debut single which reached number 1 in 37 countries and established them as a global phenomenon. (We know, can you believe it?)
With Wannabe selling over 30 million copies worldwide and the group selling 85 million records over only 3 albums, the Spice Girls still hold the accolades for the best and fastest-selling girl band in history, and the fastest-selling British act since The Beatles.
We imagine, for the majority of females across the world (and a high percentage of males), this is massive news. Whether you had the t-shirt or not - and frankly, who didn’t? - who can’t reel of the names of every Spice Girl - Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) - faster than they can spell their own name?
And a reunion wasn’t looking likely. After Geri left the band in 1998 and they embarked on solo careers in 2001, relations were looking pretty tense until they joined for a tour in 2007 after which they vowed never to reunite. But then the Olympics opening ceremony happened, and the opening night of Viva Glam, and now this. It's fair to say it's been a rollercoaster of emotions for diehard fans.
If Instagram is anything to go by (which we all know it is), there’s no hard feelings between the gals and Victoria. The singer turned designer posted a picture of their official Spice Girls photo album, with the caption: '#TBT love my Spice Girls x vb'. Victoria has made no secret of the fact that, unlike the other girls, she's moved on from her performing days and is now too busy with her brand and family to join the tour.
We’re pretty heartbroken, though not desperately surprised, Posh Spice won’t be making an appearance but we still can’t WAIT… Now, when’s the ticket release date? We'll see you in the front row.
