We've got a lot of respect for Selena Gomez. This year, she has been the victim of horrible interviews and countless articles shaming her body. However, with a new album that's set to go stellar, the 23-year-old songstress used some on-air interview time to get a few things off her chest, and what she has to say is BRILLIANT.

Speaking candidly on The Cruz Radio Show on Power 106 in the States, she explained her decision to pose naked for her new album cover. She said: 'At the end of the day, this is not going to be a subject once the album comes out. The music is going to take over because that's how confident I am about it.'

She then revealed: 'You have to understand that I dealt with a lot of body shaming this year, and I've never experienced that before. I don't care about that stuff, but I did start gaining weight and I didn't really mind it. I enjoyed it.'

However, the star then got pretty real about how the nasty comments impacted her confidence, not matter how hard she tried to shrug them off: 'Man, that hurt. That was really hurtful. Because I've experienced people who have tried to control that kind of stuff before, and I didn't care. This is my time. I want to do it the way I want to do it. It's not even about my weight. It's just that I'm not going to give a f--k what people say—sorry!'

After dropping the f-word, she continued: 'I'm not going to let them get to me. I can do what I want. I'm not doing that all the time. It's beautiful. It represents that it's bare. I don't want diamonds and things all over me for the cover, and really thick makeup. I wanted it natural, so...geez!' Hear, hear!

Selena's 2015 took a turn for the worst when she was at the brunt of an extremely unprofessional set of questions at the hands of a US interviewer on another radio show earlier in the summer.

As it has become clear, for every successful and downright amazing woman - scratch that, PERSON - out there, there are 100 people just waiting to take them down a peg or two, and that's exactly what this interviewer tried to do to the star, who somehow managed to keep her cool throughout.

This is how it all went down. Basically, Selena agreed to chat with the host on a US radio show, with the topics of choice ranging from her birthday (which was on the same day the interview took place) to her girl gang of BFFs, and, of course, her career. However, out of nowhere, the young starlet was also asked to rate her own attractiveness, according to a 'hotness' scale of one to ten. Some birthday present, huh?

In a bid to remain professional and keep the interview going, Selena actually proceeded to answer the inappropriate (and downright offensive, if you ask us) question with a sad answer. With a tone of reluctance in her voice, she said: 'I would say, like, [on] a premiere day, I would be a nine. And then on my every day I feel like a 6. Gosh that sounds so bad. I feel like a 6 or a 7.'

YES SELENA — that does sound bad. And, now that she's had time to think her response over, we reckon she'd agree.

Aside from the fact that she should never have been asked such a question, to look at herself in an everyday manner with such low expectations is just awful. This girl is worth more than this. Quite frankly, we're all worth more than this.

Also worrying is the fact that Selena felt she even had to answer the question in the first place. While we're in no way trying to suggest the actress has done anything wrong in this situation, the fact that she didn't give the DJ a major what for and put the interview to an end there and then speaks volumes about our culture as a whole. It suggests we're a generation focused on appearance, and pretty well expectant of this disappointing behaviour. It seems to have become our new 'normal'. And that just might be the saddest point of all.

Now, however, she's made her attitude on the matter crystal clear - you do NOT mess with Selena Gomez. Got it?!
