Cate’s delicate features and rose complexion seem made for period roles, and she is certainly no stranger to them, having previously starred in Hamlet and receiving an Academy Award nomination for her role in Elizabeth: the Golden Age.
And now she stars alongside Russell Crowe in the guise of 12th century heroine Maid Marian.
There is something of a fantastical element to the shots, which see Cate looking poised and commanding in layers if cascading silk and a cape that wouldn’t look out of place in the Sherwood Forest.
If her interview is anything to go by, then Cate is certainly as in control in real life as she seems of her enviable figure, as she boasts ownership of her own theatre company, and as well as taking care of her brood of sons, she is still determined to make the most of her acting career, despite the adversity her age causes.
She revealed to W that her husband’s criticism is a huge motivation for her. After he recently reminded her that she probably had about five years left in the business, she was driven to land the role in Robin Hood.
‘I know what to do with criticism,’ she told the mag.
Robin hood is out now. Take a sneak peek at the trailer (below).
