Sarah Jessica Parker Finally Embraces Social Media To Promote Her New Shoe Collection

The Sex and the City star told Nordstrom to treat her like 'a newborn' when it comes to all things social media

Sarah Jessica Parker has finally been forced to fully embrace social media in the run up to the launch of her shoe collection at Nordstrom.

The Sex and the City star told WWD: 'I never used social media in my life until November. I was genuinely terrified. I said to [Nordstrom], "Treat me like I’m a newborn, like I’ve literally just been birthed."'

And we believe her – when SJP lached her personal Instagram account last November, we got excited that we might finally see New York through the eyes of one of its most famous inhabitants. Instead, we got a few pictures of discarded toys and a couple of clocktowers. Not exactly the diary of a fashionista we were hoping for.

But now, the actress has been fully immersed on every social media platform going. There's a new Instagram account as well as Twitter, Pinterest and even Vine – all aimed at getting the buzz for her SJP Collection, which launches tomorrow, going. And it seems to have worked – at last count the Instagram account alone had almost 40,000 followers, accrued in just a couple of weeks.

'I hear the Internet is a wonderful way to reach other people,' SJP joked to WWD. But the star also knows that nothing beats real life appearances. That's why SJP will also be visiting Nordtrom stores across the US to welcome in her new collection.

It's something Sarah Jessica did to promote her fragrance several years ago, in what she called her 'whistle-stop' tour of the states, when social media wasn't so prominent. Oh, how times have changed. 

'I will be curious to see if there is a correlation [between the campaign and] someone getting up and buying the shoes.' SJP mused. Well, we're pretty sure it can't hurt. And while we might be far away from the stores, there's very little travel involved in getting to our laptops where the shoes are but a click away...
