Wembley Arena was stormed by thousands of teenage fans last night for the Radio 1 Teen Awards, which saw pop-tastic performances from Pixie Lott, Cher Lloyd and One Direction and big wins for Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, The Inbetweeners and Olly Murs.
With Harry Potter co-star and pal Tom Felton watching on, Rupert Grint was chuffed to bits to win Best British Actor for his role in the final installment of the fantasy franchise. On winning the award the grinning Brit joked: “I’m just the ginger one in the background, this shouldn’t be happening.”
Although the teens might have been missing out on the X Factor, previous contestants including Cher Lloyd, One Direction and Olly Murs were keeping them more than entertained, with Olly going onto win Best British Album during the evening.
And hit comedy The Inbetweeners won Best British TV Show. All four main characters arrived on stage to collect the award and surprised by the size of the crowd, Joe Thomas (who plays Simon) said: "It's amazing. It means more when it's voted for by the public. It really means alot."
