In a candid and complimentary interview, Roland Mouret modestly claims he can't take any credit for Victoria Beckham's success within the fashion industry, comparing the singer-turned-designer to fashion giants such as Lady Gaga and Diane Von Furstenberg.
"Can she call me a mentor? Yes, I gave her some advice, some names, some people, and allowed her to call me whenever she wanted," explained Roland - before playing down his role in her critical success.
"She had an amazing potential that certain women have… Some women are businesswomen by the fact that people love and hate them at the same time."
Mr Mouret, known for his iconic clean-cut dresses and body-conscious silhouettes, hailed VB's celebrity designer status as the next new wave in fashion business: "Fashion is a sign of the way we are living," he explained. "Designers like me are a bit old fashioned. [Victoria] is like Lady Gaga - she has one of the strongest powers in social media."
A long-time fan of Roland Mouret, Mrs B, who used to religiously wear his designs (including the Moon dress she is credited with popularising), debuted her first collection at New York Fashion Week back in 2008; naturally comparisons were made between their designs after he offered to help and mentor the former Spice Girl.
With a huge celebrity following, including Dannii Minogue, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria and Demi Moore (seen below), there's no doubt that VB has made her own way in the fashion industry - and that close friend Mouret (dressing Aubrey Plaza, seen below left) is an undeniable source of inspiration.
