Rihanna may not have actually worn very much to the CFDAs in New York last night – the annual awards bash that celebrates the achievements of the best in the business – but that didn't stop her from being one of the evening's best-dressed, and taking away the coveted Fashion Icon of the Year Award.
Channelling the look of a 1920s Hollywood starlet (but with a decidedly 21st century update), there was no doubt that Rihanna was the star of the show in her custom Adam Selman fishnet dress (which was embellished with over 216,000 Swarvoski crystals), gloves and headscarf.
While it may be a showstopper, it's not the kind of outfit that's going to get Rihanna's Instagram account reinstated anytime soon, which, if you remember, was taken down after the 26-year-old shared one too many nipple shots. Even with that artfully placed stole we think it will prove too risque for the social media channel.
'I can compensate for all of my weaknesses with fashion, RiRi said during her acceptance speech. 'Fashion should never be frustrating, it should be fun.' We couldn't agree more RiRi.
Other winners of the night included Joseph Altuzarra, who was named Womenswear Designer of the Year (watch out for that Target collaboration later this year), and the Olsen twin's label The Row, which took home Accessories Designer of the Year.
