Jenny Lauren, the niece of global fashion icon Ralph Lauren, has been charged with being drunk on a flight from Barcelona to New York and will be sentenced in court today after spending the night in a prison cell.
The 41-year-old jewellery designer will be pleading guilty to three charges brought against her in relation to the air rage incident on Monday which caused her plane to be diverted to Shannon in Ireland.
According to reports, the relative of the global fashion designer was intoxicated on board the Delta Air Lines flight and refused to act accordingly when asked by aircraft staff to calm down. As a result, Jenny is now being charged with breaching the peace by 'engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour'.
Garda Yvette Walsh told the court yesterday that upon arresting Lauren, the designer replied: "Can you say that in English, please?", and then made no reply when charged and cautioned.
Jenny Lauren currently runs a high-end jewellery business in the US - Jenny Lauren Jewellery - which sells items priced from $350 to $5,000. Her successful career in the fashion industry sees her following in her 74-year-old billionaire uncle's designer footsteps, who famously kicked off his business in the 1960s selling neckties in Manhattan.
Her brother Brad Lauren told the MailOnline that the news of her arrest didn't come as a surprise to the family. 'That seems like Jenny', he said. 'She can be explosive with her temper. I don't know what could cause her to snap. She just has an explosive personality.'
