Prince William Opens Up About Proposal To Kate Middleton In New Documentary

Prince William talks about proposing to Kate and his love of Africa in a new documentary

Prince William has spoken about what it was like to propose to his now-wife, Kate Middleton, in a new documentary New Father, New Hope, that will air on ITV on Sunday.

William, who proposed to Kate in Kenya in 2010 said of the moment he decided to pop the question: "I didn't really plan it that far in advance, like I just knew I wanted it to feel comfortable where I did it and I wanted it to mean something, other than just the act of getting engaged. She understands what it means to me being in Africa, and my love of conservation."

William’s love of Africa and of conservation is something he has inherited from his late mother, Princess Diana. Speaking about his love for the continent, William says: "I regularly daydream. Africa is definitely one of the places I go to ... I have hundreds of animals on my iPhone. So if I am ever having quite a stressful day ... you can put a buffalo on in the background or a cricket.”

And although the new father is settled in the UK for now with his family, it sounds as if Africa is never far from his mind. "I think as soon as George grows up a little bit more... It's definitely a plan of mine to go back to Africa. I will always have Africa as a special place that I love to go back to."

New Father, New Hope will air on 15 September at 6pm
